Weekends are almost always a source of excitement and anticipation. The work week is winding down and you’re really looking forward to a weekend at the beach, or dinner with friends and family, or maybe even a quiet weekend at home. But sometimes, even the best laid plans go awry when the unexpected happens. Maybe over the course of your weekend, you were worried about arriving late for dinner and pushed the gas pedal a little too hard, or maybe believed that last drink with your friend would not impact your ability to climb behind a wheel and drive.

The flashing red and blue lights tell another story. If this is something you are experiencing, you are not alone. Last week 1806 reckless driving tickets were written in Virginia, along with 393 DUI arrests.

You may be wondering: what’s the big deal? It’s only a speeding ticket! In the state of Virginia, a reckless driving ticket can have life altering consequences. You may find yourself facing jail time, fines up to $2500, increased insurance rates, and the most life altering consequence of all, a permanent criminal record that cannot be expunged.

A DUI conviction is even worse and many of these charges come with virtually guaranteed jail time. Depending on your driving record and BAC, this jail time could be considerable. Your driving privileges will also be suspended, impacting your ability to get to and from work.

If you find yourself caught up in any of these numbers, remember, you don’t have to go through this alone. Help is available. Mr. Hardenbergh has free books on DUI and Reckless Driving that can be downloaded right here on his website.
