Monday Morning Blues sometimes affect even the most optimistic people. The stress of returning to work, after a fun-filled weekend, can lead to worry and anxiety. Adding to the worry and anxiety is the fear of COVID-19 and the political unrest that is sweeping the nation. There may not be much you can do about COVID-19, or the political unrest, but there are a few things you can do to have a better Monday.

Forbes Magazine has several suggestions. First, before leaving work on Friday, go ahead and plan for Monday. Complete as many dreaded tasks as possible, before leaving the office. By completing these tasks, the dread of handling them on Monday is removed. This can help ease some of the anxiety associated with starting a new work week.

Second, use part of Sunday to make a list of things you are looking forward to on Monday. Most people dwell on tasks or obligations that are dreaded. Instead, try making a list of items you are excited about. Also, try planning something fun for Monday, whether it’s preparing a special meal, meeting a friend, or popping some popcorn and watching a favorite movie. Having something to look forward to can help ease anxiety.

Third, be positive, and begin your week with gratitude. Focus on the positive aspects of your job, and what you enjoy about your co-workers. Don’t be a complainer, and if you’re feeling grumpy, keep these emotions to yourself. It’s also important not to listen to others who are complaining about Monday. Participating in a “culture of complaining” will not help you have a better attitude. It can also lead to negativity in the workplace.

Fourth, have fun! A large portion of life is devoted to your job, but it doesn’t have to be dreary. Find ways to enjoy Monday, instead of dreading it. It can be as simple as bringing a special treat to share with your office co-workers or planning a lunch break with a friend.

Fifth, dress up. Feeling good about your appearance can lead to confidence and a positive attitude, which can impact not only you, but the entire office. So, go ahead and wear that new outfit, smile, and let your positive attitude shine.

Many of these ideas are not rocket science and are easy to implement. Consider giving a few of these ideas a try and see if Monday Morning Blues can simply become, Monday Morning.
